IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM LA MAMA

In the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, all public events and performances of shows at La MaMa are suspended as of Friday, March 13, 2020 until further notice. Ticket buyers will be contacted as soon as possible with more information.

La MaMa is exploring ways to respond creatively to a situation that is potentially changing how we gather as a community in our theatres. La MaMa is working with CultureHub to provide online streaming of  select productions and events on Howlround Theatre Commons.

This is an incredibly challenging time for all of us, including arts organizations and the artists and employees who are now impacted by this suspension.  If you are able, please consider making a donation and showing your support.  Thank you.

A selection of new 10 minute plays by 8 NYU Playwrights

"True Story" by Justin Verbiest

Justin Verbiest is a senior at NYU in Tisch. He interns at Scott Rudin Productions in development and at Bleecker Street Films in the social media and marketing department because he can't get enough of Instagram. He also loves dogs and the beach as pictured.

"Before" by Ellie Goldman

Ellie is a recent grad of NYU Tisch. A staged reading of her play “The Caretaker” was presented last winter. She works at The Gersh Agency. Her spare time is spent listening to way too many podcasts or at Stromboli’s Pizzeria.

"And Also with You" by Megan Murphy

Megan Murphy is a graduate of NYU Tisch. She recently worked with the Pond Theatre Company to produce its sold-out run of Melissa Bubnic’s Boys Will Be Boys. Her own plays include The Model Subjects, Shouldn’t We Be Doing Something?, and Interlusional, which received a workshop with NYU Broke People Theatre. It was her birthday last Thursday, so maybe you could buy her a drink? Or vote? Yea, definitely vote.

"Bitch Island" by Mary Colussi

Mary Colussi is a soon to be graduate of NYU Tisch. She concentrated in TV, had her original play “rage play” produced by NYU’s Broke People Play Festival, and has interned so many places that you can’t help but want to employ her. (In theory.) Everything she writes is in some way about the apocalypse.

"Motel California" by Nathaniel Feeley

Nathaniel Feeley graduated with a degree from NYU Tisch in 2018. Since graduation, Nathaniel has worked many terrible, menial minimum wage jobs and one good one as a roundtable writer for an animated series currently in development at Cartoon Network.

"In Media Res" by Paidin Andreas

Paidin Andreas is a recent graduate from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. He is currently working on writing and producing short films because where the hell is he going to find the money to produce his feature length screenplays. He enjoys long walks on the beach, camping, and eating burritos because who doesn’t look good shoveling carnitas into their mouth.

"They're Called Chinos" by Brian Alcamo

Brian Alcamo is a senior in his last semester at NYU Tisch. He completed his Television Writing thesis pilot, “Tasteful,” in the fall of 2019. He is currently working on a children’s movie about bilingualism featuring an animated tongue. He’s on a quest to learn as many languages as possible, and would one day like to know everything about everything.

"Guerrilla" by Mariana Anell

Mariana Anell is a senior at NYU Tisch. She recently worked on Steven Spielberg's remake of West Side Story as the Producer's Production Assistant. She has also helped in the Acquisitions Department for the independent distribution company, A24. Beyond that, Mariana is a bilingual Latina who watches too much Youtube and wants you to stream Rosalía.
