Written by the last President of Czechoslovakia/ the first President of the Czech Republic and long-time human rights activist, Vaclav Havel, Temptation is a re-telling of Dr. Faust set in a scientific institute in a totalitarian state, which is informed by Havel’s own experience in Czechoslovakia under a government that governs by coercion and fear and demands conformity.
This production of Temptation is set in Post-9/11 New York City, where a culture of surveillance and suspicion is not-so-slowly becoming the norm. The play employs multimedia techniques to create a background of questions of science, technology, privacy and morality.
