“A highly intellectual, talkie play, perfect if you’re in the mood for a heady meditation on art and process… infused with ever-growing sexual tension… Safdie has written two very human characters, both with high ideals and real flaws. He has expertly directed his cast in bringing them to life.”
June 13 – June 30, 2013
Archinect Magazine profiles the third in Oren Safdie’s series (‘Private Jokes, Public Places’ and ‘The Bilbao Effect’) of plays about architecture.
“Safdie’s overriding objective in writing plays about architecture, he disclosed, is to “get to the human story behind buildings,” and to introduce the public to different elements of the architectural profession. “My ultimate compliment is that people walk down the street and see buildings differently.”
“Safdie has always been fascinated by architecture. His father, Moshe, designed the Yad Vashem Holocaust History Museum in Jerusalem, and the groundbreaking Habitat 67 in Montreal, where the younger Safdie was raised, among many other world-renowned structures. Before finding his calling as a playwright, the younger Safdie also studied architecture in school.”
Written and Directed by Oren Safdie
False Solution is the third play by Oren Safdie set in the world of architecture. It tells the story of a famous architect who’s just won a competition to design a Holocaust museum, and his encounter with a young intern that throws everything into question.
“Elvis Costello once said, “Writing about music is like dancing about architecture. Fortunately, writing about architecture turns out to be a much smarter thing to do, particularly if the writer is as talented as Oren Safdie.”
