About the Artists
Theatre of the Oppressed NYC is based on the methodology created in the 1970’s by Brazilian theatre director and activist Augusto Boal, who was inspired by the Pedagogy of the Oppressed of Paulo Friere. Theatre of the Oppressed is an interactive, physical and playful tool used to interactively investigate situations in which we are denied our basic rights, personally and collectively.
