"Jahyun Seo‘s abstractions reflect the time in which we live in very curious ways."
La MaMa La Galleria is pleased to present a solo exhibition of new works by Jahyun Seo, opening June 28, 2017 and on view through July 10, 2017. Entitled Seeing and Being Seen, the show features painting, photographs, and installation that wear a process of layering, editing, and transforming. Seo uses the medium of painting as a starting point and reworked into new digital forms. This show will address the diverse layers of media plays in contemporary life. 

About the Artists

Jahyun Seo was born in Seoul, Korea and working in New York. She pursued her studies in Textile and Fiber Arts in Paris at Ecole Superieure D'art Neufville Conte and later completed her Ph.D. in Textile Art at Hongik University in Seoul. Her interest in this field inspired her to research and write her dissertation A Theoretical Study on Multi-layered Plane Structure in Contemporary. Her work has been shown at the the Seoul Museum of Art, New York Cast Iron, Cheonglu Arts Center, Gana Art Space, Museum at Seoul Arts Center, Kunst Stock Gallery in Hamburg, Germany, and the Sweden Biennale 2003. Her goal in art is is to express different views of the people living in contemporary times through the harmony of analog design by layering a wide range of media.
