Interactive Hula Workshop

with Marina Celander and Kiku Sakai

Come with us and visit the mountains and the waterfalls of Hawai’i, admire a rainbow, swim with the sharks in the ocean, and play with the seashells on the beach – all this while never leaving East 4th Street! In this fun and interactive workshop we will learn to make a lei po’o, a decorative garland for the head, and then dance Hula, Hawaiian dance!

Dance with us! Marina Celander and Kiku Sakai have danced Hula for over ten years, and presently study with kumu hula Vicky Holt Takamine. They are so excited to be back as Hula Fairies at La MaMa Kids to sprinkle some magic Hula fairy dust on all.

La MaMa Kids Online presents kids performances and hands-on workshops online, timed especially for “after school” viewing! La MaMa will continue to use emerging technologies to create a new venue for artistic expression that questions how art can function and how we as a society can survive challenging periods of history.
