The Children are vocalist-lyricist Michael Wiener, an actor, performer and writer, Jim Filer Coleman of the late lamented Cop Shoot Cop, also a J.G. Thirwell collaborator, film composer and producer and Phil Puleo of Swans. The Children... put out a self-released record in the late aughts, and have played in theaters, galleries, boutiques, clubs, churches, and as guests on WFMU, also contributing tracks to the burlesque doc Exposed, a Berlin Film Festival Best Film nominee, alongside Jon Spencer, Elysian Fields, Thirwell, etc. The band's extended family includes Phil's bandmate in Swans, guitarist Norman Westberg, John Nowlin of 90s legends Barkmarket, the noted cellist Kirsten McCord, downtown chanteuse Shelley Hirsch, and others, all adventurous, uncompromising musicans and performers of the highest order, survivors, kindred spirits. Songwriting begins with improvisation, which threads its way into and sometimes overtakes live shows. A new album is in the works.
