Don't miss readings of new plays by playwrights who honed their craft at the La MaMa Umbria International Playwright Retreats (2017). Meet extraordinary writers from around the world. Each evening, you will hear portions of their plays that are in development.
There will be a 15-minute break between readings to seat each new audience and also a break from 4:00pm to 5:00pm on Saturday.

About La MaMa Umbria

Every summer La MaMa Umbria hosts artist residencies, and organizes workshops led by internationally renowned art professionals whose work is impacting the contemporary landscape of performative arts. Immersed in the creative, natural and regenerative environment of Umbria, culturally diverse artists live together while working on productions or participating in workshops to develop their artistic skills. In the past 24 years, La MaMa Umbria’s activities have included the presentation of over thirty theatre productions as well as workshops, art exhibitions, and conferences.
La Mama Umbria International is a non-profit cultural center and artist residence founded in 1990 by legendary theatre pioneer, Ellen Stewart. Dedicated to artistic experimentation, research, and learning, La MaMa Umbria is a place where artists from around the world meet to create, and to share work and ideas. Housed in a 700 year old monastery just outside Spoleto, Italy, the center is less than two hours from Rome.
La MaMa Spoleto Open, the official fringe of Spoleto’s Festival de Due Mondi is produced by La MaMa Umbria International in association with Cittá di Spoleto and Regione Spoleto and features the work of emerging and established international and local artists.
