Described in the New York Times as delivering "crystalline rendition(s)", Marisa Tornello (they/she) is a Staten Island based composer, vocalist, improviser, performance artist, and maker centering their practice around themes of mental health, and creating works that elevate voices in a stigmatized society. Attending the Trinity/La MaMa Program in 2012 and 2014, Marisa was introduced to experimental theater as a teenager through La MaMa. They were a recipient of the 2022 Artist Commission at Roulette Intermedium through the Jerome Foundation, and awarded the DCA Premier Grant and Howard Gilman Performing Artist Residency Cohort Grant in 2023 via Staten Island Arts. Their work has been performed at Target Margin Theater, Roulette Intermedium, Judson Church, La MaMa, The Invisible Dog Center, The Newhouse Center for Contemporary Art at Snug Harbor, The Tank, and ChaShaMa.
