About the Playwright
CHERRY LOU SY is an immigrant from the Philippines and came to Brooklyn, New York when she was thirteen. She studied at NYU’s Gallatin School (BA) and recently at Brooklyn College (MA English Lit) where she is currently an Adjunct Lecturer of English Composition. She has previously worked with Ping Chong in the Undesirable Elements series and with Marlies Yearby. Besides writing plays, she is also at work on a novel.

Michael LoPorto (Director) is the co-founder of Dialogue with Three Chords (D3C), a member of the Playwright and Director’s Unit at The Actor’s Studio, a founding member of Barefoot Theatre Company, the drummer for punk band The Deacons, and an associate member of the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society. Michael works at Brooklyn College as an academic advisor and is a stage director whose work has been seen at: HERE Arts Center, Park Playhouse, Dixon Place, The Lafayette Theatre, The Studio Theatre at Theatre Row, The Palace Theater in Albany NY, Gloucester Stage Company in Massachusetts, The 92nd Street Y, The Loews Theatre in New Jersey, Theater for a New City, The SOHO Digital Arts Gallery , The Bleecker Street Theater, The American Globe Theatre, The 78th Street Theatre Lab, The Pantheon Theatre, BRIC Studio, The Looking Glass Theatre, The Sargent Theatre at the American Theatre of Actors, DUMBO Theatre eXchange, and Brooklyn College.
Sean Mellot (Other Boy) Sean’s work in New York includes Dogs of Oklahoma as part of The Brick Theater’s Democracy Festival, Next! with Abraxas Stage Company, Jam on Ice with The Jam at New Georges, and Communal Spaces with The Motor Company. Regionally, he has performed at Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park (Leveling Up), Milwaukee Rep (Peter and the Starcatcher), The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis (The Mousetrap), Actors Theatre of Louisville (A Christmas Carol and two Humana Festival premieres, Oh, Gastronomy! and The Dungeons and the Dragons), Pittsburgh Irish & Classical Theatre (House & Garden), Denver’s Curious Theatre (End Days, Rabbit Hole and Up), and the Shakespeare Festival at Tulane (Romeo & Juliet and Coriolanus). He holds a BA in Theatre from Tulane University.
Conor Patrick Sullivan (Boy 2) is a recent graduate of the BFA Acting program at Brooklyn College, and a current member of The Bats, the resident acting company at the Flea Theater in TriBeCa. Kendra Leigh Landon (Redhead Girl) is a Brooklyn based actress, funny lady & fashion plate. Tina WongLu (Girl 2) graduated from Brooklyn College with a BFA in Acting. Her post graduate shows were in the world premiere of American Dreamers by Lia Romeo as Mallory and in BFE by Julia Cho as “Hae Yoon” Some of her favorite roles in college were “Justina” in Meron Langster’s new play Legacies, “Evil Tina” in She Kills Monster and “Officer” in Camino Real. The biggest importance about theater she has learned in her training is that people need stories, it’s the only way to shine light to those in the dark.
Edie Nugent (Stage Directions) is a producer, writer, and publicist specializing in the arts and geek media. Her lifelong love of theatre began in grade school, and she has both acted on and written for the stage with CAT Youth Theatre at NYU and Starfish Theaterworks She produces monthly theatrical collective Dialogue with Three Chords (D3C) and has served as press officer on projects like the NY premiere of the Sunday Times award-winning play Easy Laughter by Robert Shearman for Dirt [contained] Theatre Company. ,When not working in theatre, Edie writes about everything from film to fashion to comic books. She is a staff writer for The Beat, a comic book culture news blog. She reviews TV for Common Sense Media, and also writes for Geek and Sundry and Cinemovie where she has interviewed George Lucas, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Alan Cumming , and Kristen Bell to name a few. Edie is a proud member of the Women Film Critics Circle.
Cristina Pitter (Other Girl) is a Brooklyn based artist, storyteller, healer, and sex educator. She also has the best laugh ever. Seriously. Elizabeth Scopel (Girl) is a New York based actor/ writer. A recent Vassar graduate, Elizabeth has worked in NYC with the Pearl Conservatory and ESPA. She is interested in viewing heightened text through absurd, specific lenses with movement as a driving force. Currently, she is working on a webseries of faux-medical PSA’s and an untitled new musical about Planned Parenthood. This is her debut with La MaMa.
Shomari Pinnock (Boy) is currently completing the last semester of his BFA in Acting degree at Brooklyn College. He recently played in a production of Baltimore Waltz directed by Noel MacDuffie in the New Workshop Theater. Shomari is also exited to be apart of Brooklyn College’s first all black play, “When We Wake Up Dead”, written by Dennis Allen and directed by Christopher Burris this spring. Almost at the start of his professional career, he is pleased to have the experience of reading “Girl” at La Mama Galleria.
Experiments Play Reading Series
For the 23rd season of La MaMa Experiments we will focus on theatrical works in progress addressing mental health issues. No one is more familiar with the need to create greater access to mental healthcare than our New York audience, who come face to face with this crisis on a daily basis. After 3 years of a global pandemic, all of us are feeling the upsurge of anxiety and depression, but these trends have been on the rise long before Covid-19. The works this season shed light on important, personal stories and deal with this subject matter in many different and unique ways. From tongue in cheek comedies to absurdist tragedies, Experiments hopes to create a season that will destigmaify, enlighten and, yes, even entertain.
