Founded by theatre pioneer Ellen Stewart in 1961, La MaMa is recognized as the seedbed of new work by artists of all nations and cultures. To date, La MaMa has presented more than 150,000 artists from over 70 nations. La MaMa has become a world-renowned cultural institution that is home to three theaters, an art gallery, rehearsal studios, a visiting artist dormitory, office spaces, and an extensive archive documenting the history of Off-Off Broadway.  The La MaMa Moves! Dance Festival celebrates its 10th Anniversary Season from May 21-June 21, 2015, featuring emerging and seasoned choreographers and reflecting La MaMa’s longstanding mission to performance that transcends politics and unifies cultures. The Dance Cartel creates dances that are vibrant, immersive, and often participatory. La MaMa Junior Committee is the new generation of La MaMa theatre patrons and theatre artists, with exclusive access to our programs and staff.
