This program explores the continuity and lineage between modern dance and contemporary dance, as a new generation of artists begins to create work and inspire the next phase of modern dance. Orihara performs the work of various choreographers, both re-staged and new, including: Martha Graham, José Limón, Martha Clarke, Miki Orihara and Adam Barruch, with new score by Senri Oe.
Miki Orihara has been a principal dancer of the Martha Graham Dance Company since 1987. She performed with prominent companies and choreographers including Yuriko, Elisa Monte and Dancers, Jun Jono Dance Troup(Japan),Buglisi/Foreman Dance, Rioult Dance NY, Stephen Pier,Twyla Tharp, Robert Wilson, SITI company, and the Broadway production of the King and I. She was a special guest artist for Japan’s New National Theater Production for Dance Teatron. Her own works have been produced in NY and Japan. Orihara has taught workshops in Japan, Moscow, Amsterdam, Paris, Peridance, the Ailey School, NYU, Florida University and the Martha Graham School. In 2010, she received a Bessie Award for her contributions to dance.
