La MaMa is launching LiveTalks, a weekly online collaborative discussion that will highlight important responses to a situation that is changing how we gather as a community in our theatres. LiveTalks provides an important virtual platform that links performers and audiences in real time across distance to discuss ways artists and creatives are moving forward. Join us as La MaMa explores new venues for artistic expression and conversation that questions how art can function and how we as a society can survive challenging periods of history.

Learn how to navigate La MaMa’s Digital Catalog with Sophie Glidden-Lyon! This free online resource includes a record of artists, performances, companies and tours during decades of La MaMa’s history from Bette Midler to Harvey Milk, Candy Darling to Torch Song Trilogy, and Tom Eyen to André De Shields.
The digitized collection features theater posters, archival photos, and personal letters that offer an intimate perspective on major social, aesthetic, and political movements of the 20th and 21st centuries that resonate with histories of peoples across the globe. Sophie will offer a tutorial on how to navigate this helpful tool and access the materials. Sophie and Ryan will discuss unique ways to think about the materials available online and explain why and how the La MaMa Archive was created by our founder, Ellen Stewart.

Sophie Glidden-Lyon is the manager of digital and special projects at the La MaMa archive. In addition to managing the digital collections website, she assists director Ozzie Rodriguez in the care and development of the archive, including digitization projects, programming, and reference services.

La MaMa will continue to use emerging technologies to create a new venue for artistic expression that questions how art can function and how we as a society can survive challenging periods of history.
