Love Letters to the U. S. of A. Care Cafe

At the August Care Cafe we started writing postcards to voters encouraging them to get out the vote in the midterms. Everyone was so enthusiastic we managed to write all 150 cards in less than an hour!
SO WE ARE GOING TO DO IT AGAIN!

We have ordered more than twice as many cards and plan to sit together and get the job done in time for the October 7 mailing date.

Now we all know that ‘some people’ like to say that there are ‘some people’ – leftists, radicals, artists, queers etc – who don’t love this country but we know that is not true. There is plenty to love about living in a democracy and one way to show the love is to get out the vote for the midterm elections.

We will think of them as ‘love letters to the USA’ but we will also take a break from post carding and write love letters to people we think might be in need of some. This is inspired by the moreloveletters, a project that ‘wants to leave the world better than they found it one love letter at a time.’ Have a look at their website https://www.moreloveletters.com/ or just think of someone to write to and we will provide the supplies and postage.

As usual we will keep the form of a Care Café- a conversational format whose focus is to gather around cafe tables and chat with those we know or might come to know in an atmosphere of care. All we have to do is turn up as we are and consider how we can maintain an attitude of care in an uncaring world.

Usually there’s no specific agenda, discussion topic, or expectation. However, we will be focusing on the midterm elections coming up in less than 60 days!

A Care Café asks us to turn up as we are, with no specific agenda, expectation, or discussion topic, simply asking the question: How can we maintain an attitude of care in an uncaring world?

Set up like a conventional café with small tables and chairs, the Care Café acts as a temporary venue for community and conversation with some simple table activities set up within a framework of care. Just by entering the room, we acknowledge something of our own needs in the present moment and our desire to give and receive care.
