Bond Street Theatre: 50 Years of Looking for Trouble

Since 1976, Bond Street Theatre has been dedicated to addressing social issues with physicality, comedy, and passion.

A resident company at LaMama in its early years, the ensemble created social-political works for both indoor and street theatre. The ensemble has trained in the physical and gestural arts of many traditions: mime, dance, acrobatics, martial arts, masks, stilts, many types of music and performance. Today, the company regularly works internationally, collaborating with local artists and aid organizations, and initiating community-based arts projects for education, healing, and empowerment in critical areas. The company has worked in more than 60 countries, including 16 years in Afghanistan, 10 years in Myanmar, and elsewhere. Bond Street Theatre is an NGO in association with the United Nations, and a MacArthur Foundation awardee.
