The truth is even queerer than fiction.

In the 1975 blockbuster film Dog Day Afternoon, a bank robber portrayed by Al Pacino attempts a heist to pay for his trans wife’s surgery. Overlooked trans icon Elizabeth Eden sought to set the record gay by writing her own memoir denouncing those who exploited her and sharing a firsthand account of the life of a trans woman in Stonewall-era New York City. Sharing Liz’s story for the first time, Doll Day Afternoon is conceived and directed by Dmitri Barcomi and presented by Vice Squad, an award winning international artist collective that draws inspiration from unusual source materials and shared queer history.

Dmitri Victor Barcomi (he/him) is a transsexual transdisciplinary theatermaker from New York City. His artistic interests include working with unusual source materials, technological experimentation, international theatrical collaborations, and honoring queer icons. Directing credits include A Jury of Our Queers (director/creator, Target Margin), She He Me (PAC NYC/National Queer Theater), The Chimera (Lincoln Center/NQT), Botticelli in the Fire (Lenfest Center for the Arts), Case Studies: A New Kinsey Report (director/creator, The Brick), The Heresy Machine (director/creator, Edinburgh Fringe), Ideologix (Teatr Słowackiego, Krakow), WAAFRIKA123 (Queer Zagreb, Croatia), and a whole lot of weird downtown indie theater. Dmitri has championed queer and trans voices through his work with National Queer Theater and as a co-producer of T4T Theater Festival (The Brick) and Transgender Day of Remembrance Celebration In Full Bloom (HERE Arts Center). Dmitri is also a proud Fulbright Scholar and founder of the Museum of Drag! BA: The New School, MFA: Columbia University.

DAPHNE KINARD is an actress and writer based in New York City. Film and TV credits include “Catch and Kill” (Brian de Palma) and “Dickinson” (Apple TV+). New York theatre credits include originating the role of Liz Eden during “In Full Bloom” (HERE Arts), as well as “Blood at the Root” (Chautauqua), “Austin” (Red Light Theatrical), and “Pilled” (Adult Film). She attended the BFA program at Carnegie Mellon, and recently received her MFA in Acting from Columbia University.
