Let’s Keep it Together Care Café

a free community event by Lois Weaver
October 20

5pm-7pm

enjoy Care Cafes on the third Tuesday of the month

As we head into the midterms, we are all balancing on the edges of anxiety and hope. We are struggling with anxiety for the present and hoping against hope for a better future – while working hard to do what we can. For instance, mailing 500 postcards to potential voters this week. Well done us!

However, there is still plenty phone calling, texting and door knocking to be done before November 5. So maybe we need some October respite to see us through the next few weeks and to keep us together regardless of the outcomes.

That’s why we are hosting a
Let’s Keep it Together Care Café
at La Mama, 74 East 4th Street NYC
on October 20th from 5- 7 pm.

We will sit at a nice big table in a state of rest and relaxation and simply enjoy each other’s company while possibly piecing together what we might do to move forward after the election. Join us.

For those of you good at making connections, you might already have a clue about what easy hands-on activities we will be getting up to. And here’s a hint if you need one- if you have any old jigsaw puzzles hanging around that you would like to trade for a new one – bring it along!

As usual we will keep the form of a Care Café- a conversational format whose focus is to gather around cafe tables and chat with those we know or might come to know in an atmosphere of care. All we have to do is turn up as we are and consider how we can maintain an attitude of care in an uncaring world.

Usually there’s no specific agenda, discussion topic, or expectation. However, we will be focusing on the midterm elections coming up in less than 60 days!

You can RSVP here or drop in anytime between 5-7 pm

About

A Care Café asks us to turn up as we are, with no specific agenda, expectation, or discussion topic, simply asking the question: How can we maintain an attitude of care in an uncaring world?

Set up like a conventional café with small tables and chairs, the Care Café acts as a temporary venue for community and conversation with some simple table activities set up within a framework of care. Just by entering the room, we acknowledge something of our own needs in the present moment and our desire to give and receive care.
