Loco7’s Studies in Puppet Form Workshop Showcase
Conceived and led by
Denise Greber and Federico Restrepo
ABOUT
The Visit blends handmade craft, storytelling, and quiet theatrical illusion to explore how the past persists in the body—and how guidance can arrive long after we think we’ve outgrown it. A solitary performer is joined by a figure who knows them from before—before the choices, the revisions, the version they’ve become. Speaking with the authority of memory stretched over time, this presence offers insight that is intimate, inconvenient, and difficult to ignore. Through movement, stillness, and live exchange, their relationship unfolds: what begins as control gradually shifts toward listening, accountability, and recognition. The encounter doesn’t resolve so much as recede, leaving a question in its wake: what are we still unwilling to hear?
Developed in parallel with Loco7’s Studies in Puppet Form Workshop—a 10-week series with older adults and members of the Sirovich Center for Balanced Living—the work is rooted in a shared exploration of body and puppetry as tools for expression. Through sequential sessions, participants build skills in movement, spatial awareness, and character creation while discovering new ways to communicate identity. Blending puppetry, dance, spoken word, and music, the workshop culminates in a vivid, image-driven performance created by the participating artists, reflecting a wide spectrum of lived experience and emotion.

Sirovich Center for Balanced Living of Educational Alliance is the second-oldest center of its kind in New York City. The William I. Sirovich Memorial Association was founded in April 1947 by the Sirovich family “to provide a center for the older person where [they] can find companionship, and an opportunity for continuing [their] life-long interests and for developing new ones.”
Since its conception more than 75 years ago, Sirovich Center has implemented various arts, education, nutrition, and health programming with the aim of furthering Dr. Sirovich’s mission to improve the lives of older adults living and working in New York City.
For over 130 years, Educational Alliance has remained a constant for the residents of Lower Manhattan in the ever-evolving city of New York. The Sirovich Center is part of our Older Adult Services (OAS) division, a comprehensive services model that supports and advances the healthy aging of nearly 10,000 older New Yorkers annually. Our OAS locations also include the Weinberg Center for Balanced Living, Project ORE, and Co-Op Village NORC (Naturally Occurring Retirement Communities).
