SCREENING

Material Witness
Wednesday, November 4th 5:00pm-6:30pm

Material Witness (2016) explores personal and family stories of violence and the healing journeys of Indigenous women in our global community. Developed in partnership with Loose Change Productions and Aanmitaagzi, an arts collective from Nipissing First Nation.

SCREENING

Winnetou’s Snake Oil Show from Wigwam City
Thursday, November 5th 5:00pm-6:30pm

Winnetou’s Snake Oil Show from Wigwam City (1988) takes inspiration from The Legend of Winnetou by nineteenth century German author Karl May. Spiderwoman Theater satirizes the stereotypes perpetuated by authors like May and New Ageism in general, by performing a bona fide Snake Oil Show, spoofing the New Age plastic shaman, phony mysticism, and the wannabe Indians who have come to expect miraculous results from American Indian spirituality.

SCREENING

Sun, Moon and Feather and Reverb-ber-ber-ations

Friday, November 6th 5:00pm-6:30pm

Sun, Moon and Feather (1981) is a musical-comedy documentary about three sisters growing up Native American in an Italian neighborhood in Brooklyn during the 1930s and 1940s. Film directed by Bob Rosen.

Reverb-ber-ber-ations (1990) is a tribute to the Miguel sisters’ mother about the rejection of her spirituality, but the realization that this spirituality was not only in them but also their children and grandchildren. These are stories of searching and acceptance.
