Third Tuesday Care Cafés

THIS MONTH:

Seeds of Care Cafè

a time for growth, healing, and heritage

a free event created by Lois Weaver and co-hosted with Kim Ima, Peggy Shaw, Spencer Olson and Kaylie Bucaro in partnership with the Hetrick Martin Institute, Arab-American Family Support Center, and La Mama ETC

Finally! The days are getting longer, and yet they seem to be getting darker with news of war with Iran and increasing bigotry and discrimination here in the US. So it’s time to honor the nurturing nature of Spring by planting some seeds of hope and care!

Come join us for our April Care Café at La MaMa, co-hosted with Hetrick-Martin Institute and Arab-American Family Support Center as we celebrate Arab-American Heritage Month through our theme, Seeds of Care: Growth, Healing, and Heritage.

We will plant some intentions, share messages of care, and connect across cultures and generations through thoughtful (and playful!) community-centered activities. We might even have a short Speak Out session so if you have a heritage poem, healing quote, anti war rant, or relevant announcement to share, bring it along.

As usual there will be light refreshments- this time including Arabic coffee, tea, and small bites like baklava, ma’amoul, and date- filled pastries and more! Together, we’ll honor heritage while nurturing spaces for healing and growth.

You can RSVP with La Mama to let us know you are coming, but you can drop in anytime between 5-7 pm.

About

A Care Café asks us to turn up as we are, with no specific agenda, expectation, or discussion topic, simply asking the question: How can we maintain an attitude of care in an uncaring world?

Set up like a conventional café with small tables and chairs, the Care Café acts as a temporary venue for community and conversation with some simple table activities set up within a framework of care. Just by entering the room, we acknowledge something of our own needs in the present moment and our desire to give and receive care.

You can RSVP with La Mama to let us know you are coming, but you can drop in anytime between 5-7 pm.
