Third Tuesday Care Cafés

THIS MONTH:

January is a time of beginnings- a new year, new projects, new sets of habits and intentions. Usually, that means a time of reflection, of looking inward and making lists of personal wishes and individual resolutions.

At our new mayor’s inauguration, NYC Public Advocate Jumaane Williams asked us to stand, take hold of our neighbors hand and repeat the motto he has adopted from the Brazilian Bolsonaro resistance,

“No one let go of anyone’s hands because if we’re all connected we can’t lose anyone. So we hold on to the hand of our neighbor and we reach out with our other hand to grasp someone who may fall through the cracks and we bring them along”.

For our January Care Café, we will be looking for ways to stand alongside, hold on, and not let go of each other. Instead of making resolutions for ourselves, we will be turning outward and reflecting on how we can show up and show up for each other. Together we will think about how we can accept these challenges and bring some big imagination and transformative love for 2026 into our communities and daily lives. “

Join us on January 20 for the Begin the Year with Care… Cafe for some dreaming, scheming, and care to jumpstart the year.  As usual there will be activities.

About

A Care Café asks us to turn up as we are, with no specific agenda, expectation, or discussion topic, simply asking the question: How can we maintain an attitude of care in an uncaring world?

Set up like a conventional café with small tables and chairs, the Care Café acts as a temporary venue for community and conversation with some simple table activities set up within a framework of care. Just by entering the room, we acknowledge something of our own needs in the present moment and our desire to give and receive care.

You can RSVP with La Mama to let us know you are coming, but you can drop in anytime between 5-7 pm.
