Third Tuesday Care Cafés

THIS MONTH:

At the Grammy’s, Bad Bunny reminded us that ‘the only thing more powerful than hate is LOVE’. So what could be more perfect around Valentine’s Day than a Care Café celebrating intergenerational queer LOVE and conversation?

On February 17 from 5-7 PM we are partnering with the Hetrick-Martin Institute to bring you A Care Café on Queer Love Across Time

This is an opportunity to sit across the table and talk across generations about love and life, about then and now.

The Hetrick-Martin Institute (HMI) provides a safe and supportive environment for LGBTQIA+ youth between the ages of 13 and 24 to achieve their full potential. At HMI, youth find the care and community they need to build brighter futures, affirm their identities, nurture their strengths, and equip them to pursue a more equitable tomorrow. Queer and trans youth from HMI will join the Care Café regulars and the Care Café curious —some of whom are old queers, some of whom are just older — but all of us comrades under a roof of care.

Join us! We might be making post-modern post-Valentines, writing love notes to versions of younger and older selves, creating love chains of paper dolls dressed up in outrageous drag or…we might just eat pizza and enjoy each other’s company. All are welcome!

You can RSVP with La Mama to let us know you are coming, but you can drop in anytime between 5-7 pm.

About

A Care Café asks us to turn up as we are, with no specific agenda, expectation, or discussion topic, simply asking the question: How can we maintain an attitude of care in an uncaring world?

Set up like a conventional café with small tables and chairs, the Care Café acts as a temporary venue for community and conversation with some simple table activities set up within a framework of care. Just by entering the room, we acknowledge something of our own needs in the present moment and our desire to give and receive care.

You can RSVP with La Mama to let us know you are coming, but you can drop in anytime between 5-7 pm.
